New Brunswick markets its food online
SAINT JOHN, NB—Smart Eat TV is an online video site launched in June to promote New Brunswick’s culinary scene.
Each month the website, which is also being marketed as a social media outlet, showcases a region of the province and features restaurants and guests from that region.
“It is embracing new technologies to moving culinary tourism aspects into the forefront,” said Real Robichaud, executive director of the Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick.
“Hopefully other restaurants or foodservice providers will follow suit. The website and Opera Bistro are offering a culinary experience where you as a consumer can participate in the making of your own food.”
The owners of Opera Bistro in Saint John, Margret and Axel Begner, are behind the online television network, along with Hemmings House Pictures, a Saint John’s production company.
Producers hope to make 13 episodes covering topics like local food, interesting locations, the 100-mile diet and ideas to help the environment.
An interactive forum is the place for discussion and social networking, with contributions from across Canada and around the world.
