Beware the exploding wine bottle

HALIFAX—Wine lovers who purchased Nova 7 wine from Benjamin Bridge are being asked to return them for a refund.

The winery said the bottle is at risk of exploding due to excess carbonation during the fermenting process. Affected bottles were sold at Bishop’s Cellar, Premier Wine and Spirits and Harvest Wine and Spirits.

“Flawed bottles of Nova 7 will display cloudiness and excessive carbonation. In many instances, the pressure from the carbonation has actually caused the product to explode and shatter the glass bottle,” reads a statement from Benjamin Bridge.

Anyone with the wine are being asked to pour out the wine and return the empty bottle so it does not explode on the way to the store.

“With a week of hot weather ahead (and heat acting as a major catalyst for bottles to explode) we do not want anyone to take unnecessary safety risks in returning their affected bottle,” the company said.

Customers who don’t want to open the bottle themselves can contact the winery at wines@benjaminbridge.com or 902-542-1560 to arrange for the pickup and refund of unopened bottles.
